Specialized Adrenaline Pro Review

side3_adrenalineI tend to buy lots of tires, and after getting my first set of tubeless wheels I tried out some different specialized tubeless tires; the Roll X Pro, the Adrenaline Pro and the Fast Trak Pro.

I liked the Adrenaline and Fast Trak, but was disappointed by the Roll-X.  This review is just for the Adrenaline which is now called the Resolution.  I really like this tire and have had both the tubeless and tubed 2.0" versions. Calling this tire a 2.0 is funny as it is way wider and taller than a Bonti Jones 2.2. The weight is a little high and the rolling resistance is only so so but I’ve learned that is not so freaking important anymore. For 2007 the Resolution is made as a 2.1 and 2.3 width plus the 29 by 2.3 version. The Pro Tubless versions cost $40, the tubed Pro $35 and the sport $25.

face2_adrenalineOverall I think the Adrenaline makes a better front than rear tire.  The sidewalls are really tall, which I love since it increases the overall diameter and sort of emulates the character of a 29er.  I’ve never had a puncture or pinch flat with the tubed or tubeless versions and both have worn very well. I did have the tubeless version burp all the air out before I ran it with sealant.

As a front tire it inspires lots of corning confidence. It does not slip out unpredictably in dirt, gravel, rocks or mud and it responds well to being leaned over.  It does not pack mud.  I ran it as a front in the 2006 Shenandoah and it did what I wanted, never made me worry.

I ran it as a rear in the 2005 Wilderness 101 and other times in Rothrock and it was not too grand. It tended to slip allot on the gravel fireroads climbs. It did not tend to slip out on trails, but feeling the fireroad gravel spin out sucks.

Specialized has now developed a 29er version of this tire. Odd, this is their second 29er tire when they have no 29er bike. And don't be calling those off-road flat bar cross bike things 29ers.
