jmblg how long till Detweiler is ride-able? - 2008/04/10 07:07 and will it ever be the same......a few weeks ago my wife and a friend were hiking Detweiler and said they had to turn back due to all the cut down trees across the trail after the pipeline. Last night we were coming down thickhead turned right and smack,so many trees across the entrance to Detweiler you couldn't ride it (or even walk it)...worked out ok as we enjoyed the opportunity to ride Long Mtn (last time my we came down that my partner was on a 24er; what a difference a few years made...)

kevinb Re:how long till Detweiler is ride-able? - 2008/04/10 09:10 It will probably be ripped up for at least the first half of the summer. first the pipe line people need to clear the corridor then come back through and lay the pipe. Thats what we have to look forward to along the gas line at tussey mtn trail and the extension as well. the reason detwilier itself is so torn up is that is how they are accessing the gasline in that area, coming up thickhead then down detwiller. not sure why its necessarily so torn up at the intersection though

Demon of the Fall Re:how long till Detweiler is ride-able? - 2008/04/10 11:42 Impossible! How could they re-route and still keep it around 101 miles? Flying down Detwiler is so much fun.

jmblg Re:how long till Detweiler is ride-able? - 2008/04/10 12:15 I figured they needed a wider corridor to get their equipment in. The upper end of Detweiler had some really nice shaded sections; tunnels from the tree limbs....i'm sure at this point, those are a thing of the past....

kevinb Re:how long till Detweiler is ride-able? - 2008/04/10 12:58 that is probably the case. I have not had the "pleasure" of seeing what they are using but to clear that much as quickly as they plan, it must be pretty good size, can you say Lorax?
anyways, they are supposed to mitigate anything they rip after they are done but obviously there is no putting the tree canopy back right away.
